"In my darkest hour,
In my deepest despair,
will you still care........
Will you be there
in my trails and my tribulations,
through all doubts
and frustrations,
in my violence,
in my turbulence,
through my fear
and my confessions,
in my anguish and my pain,
in my joy and my sorrow,
In the promise of another tomorrow........
I will never let you part for you are always..... in my heart"
"I am just a dreamer......dreaming the dream"
At the crack of dawn on June 25, 2009, I woke up to a heartbreaking news on CNN. One imagines that some people are ageless and deathless but sadly that is not the case, of course. Sitting in a daze, my mind preoccupied with a thousand thoughts, tears filled my eyes. I had just lost an uncle recently to cancer. He, like Michael, was only 50 and left this world all too soon.
Michael's music was a big influence in my life while growing up. He was one of my teenage idols and I would dream of one day meeting him. Those teenage yearnings did come to pass when I met the King of Pop in person in 2007.
I remembered vividly his soft voice and his gentle hand shake. Surprisingly he was extremely shy, perhaps hard to understand and therefore easily misunderstood. The public persona that one sees is not the person one meets. Ultimately, he was all too human albeit an extraordinarily talented one. Above all, he was a person who believed very much in his charitable works, especially for the children of the world.
Now as I listen to his music I see a story of his life slowly unfolding before me in the lyrics. Michael will never cease to sing to my heart.
“Because we know the Who, we can endure the What, though we don’t understand the Why”.
